Crazy Monster Build thread
Holy moly what a couple of days!! So I got this ****er back together. I must have put in a good 10 hours tearing it down, installing the tranny and putting everything back together!!! I took a test ride and man is it smooth!! 6 th gear is freaking great on the highway. So let's recap the year: new brakes, tires, chain, starter, neck bolt and tranny!! Maybe I can ride it for z while now haha
Just got home from a day on the road. Everything is running great!! Starter functions flawlessly, new tranny smooth as hell, big smile on my face!! After that shitty couple of days getting that transmission in I was very happy to have a day on the road with no issues. Ride on!!!
I started my RK air shock project on my 1200 yesterday, and the swamp weather had sweat pouring in my eyes, gave up and went back out at midnight to do some more. Already too muggy today for the garage. I'd love to have one of those six speeds for my Tour Glide refurb. I do a little welding and grinding, but I'm mostly a parts changer, you're way ahead of me on mods. That's gotta be an impressive ride, been fun following your progress.
Thanx imold, it is fun as hell to ride!!
I was hoping that describing the absolute disgusting working conditions of that weather late last would ring true with somebody!!! Haha, ya, nauseous with sweat running in eyes... Bingo!!! But I guess it was still fun haha!!

Wrenching is great for taking your mind off other things, just you and the metal, block out the rest of the world. I need to do that sometimes. Would be nice to have a heated and air conditioned garage, but I don't. Been warm out there lately. Pulled a motor this weekend:

Hope someday it'll be a Tour Glide again. Wanted to change out the 120,000 mile cleve blocks. Pivot bolt froze into the trans case. Got a little bit complicated... At least now it's light enough to carry it into the dining room, my version of an air conditioned garage. Another advantage of not having a woman living in the house.

Hoping I can get it in position in my press and press the pivot bolt out without cutting between the swing arm and case. Hope the case doesn't crack. Will need another pair of strong hands, bit heavy and awkward.
Sure would like to trash this old 5 speed and swing arm, get a Baker 6 speed and the later model heavier swing arm. Money... that part of divorce sucks.
