Slipping apes

My buddy has an iron with apes that keep slipping. We tried putting sand paper between the risers and bars but no luck. Any ideas?

Some have drilled and tapped the risers for a couple set screws.

Quite often the top clamp is in contact with the risers. In other words, no matter how tight you tighten them, they will not have the force to hold the bars in place. Look to see if there is a clear visible gap between the top clamp and the risers. If not, get out the grinder and grind the top clamp lip until you can see sunshine between the two. Then tighten them back up.

Mine were slipping, switched to some poly bushings and fixed the problem.

Open can of beer.
Drink beer.
Cut can into strips.
Wind strips around bars.
Install bars in clamps.
Tighten clamps.
Drink another beer.

Go to any hardware store and get some Drywall Screen. Cut to size and should do it. Used it on my Carlini evil apes, haven't moved since.

I tried the sandpaper method, the beer can method and a few others. they all work for a while but they all eventually slip again. Save yourself some time. I finally drilled a couple of 1/4" holes about 3/8" deep into my riser caps. I then drilled matching holes on my bars (I wrapped masking tape around bars and put a dab of grease inside the riser cap, pressed it place to mark the hole location on the bar). Make sure if you have something on the drill bit to prevent you from going to deep and hitting wires, I used a deep socket over the bit (right tool for the right job!). I then put in a couple of 1/4" roll pins I picked up at Home depot for 50 cents. Impossible for the bars to ever slip again.
