I have a chance to get a killer pre-painted tin set for my carburated 2000 Heritage, for super cheap (about half the price of just painting my existing tins), but it's an FI tank, now I know I can use it just fine, but it comes with no FI module to fill up the giant hole in the top. Does anyone make a block off plate for that? I'd rather not have to source a fuel inection module just to cover the hole.
Oh and where's a good source for the petcock adapter I know I'm going to need?

HD will sell you just the plate, the gasket and the screws needed to block of the hole. No need to buy the whole fuel injection unit. Keep in mind that that cover also has the bracket for the cariage bolt of your dash on it..
I guess same will go for the petcock adaptor if you need one of course.
What year is the tank? Does it have the 2 holes in the bottom or only one?
It's off an '05 and has only the one hole, so I was thinking of getting the Pingel adapter, unless anyone knows of a cheaper one. I was unaware that HD sold a block off plate. I was figuring on either making it, or buying a used FI module and ripping the guts out of it. It's an '05 Deluxe Blue and white factory paint set, brand new take off set for $500....
Sounds like a bloody good deal! And blue and white ... nice!
For 2005 the tanks for the fuel injected and carburated bikes were the identical.
So look for the parts numbers on the carburated model.
You will have to look for the "fuel tank sender unit assembly" it will set you back about $210 or so (comes with the top plate) ... Probably cheaper from an online dealer
for 2006 and later you can buy the top plate separate. Should fit your 2005 tank but not 100% sure. The fuel sender of your 2000 bike won't fit in the 2005 tank.
For the pet ****, you could probably order the one for the 2005 carburated bikes if yours doesn't fit.
In 2004 when the FI was quit common on a Softail I think both tanks were the same with the large top window even then?
No, the Carb tanks were sans hole, at least mine is anyway, as far as later years, you may be correct, idk. I've looked through all the online microfiches, and can't find anything in the way of a factory Harley blockoff plate. Looks like I may be having one made. Pretty much all I have to do is trace the gasket onto a piece of 14 gauge steel and cut it out. Figured I would just buy one first if anyone made it though.
Edit: both of you are correct, I looked at the microfiche for 2005, and both carb and EFi use the same tanks, just a different sender for either or. Looks like I'll have to spend another $200 just to have a fuel guage. Crap.
