+1 on the HD battery. I've also foud that I can get 5-7 years on a HD battery. I've tried the Batteries Plus battery and it only made it 1-1/2 years. The one I bought from them only had a year warranty as well..

I am not knocking the HD battery, I figure the 5yrs the Org one lasted was pretty good.

Cant say yet how they Batt Plus batts will hold up, just got one in March this yr.
They are made by Deka so figured/hoping it'll be a good one. Time will tell..

Called dealer and it was something like $130.?? then drive almost 100 miles to get one. total with gas for truck around .$150

Called Battery Plus and got sales price plus she gave me another 10% off for senior.. ended up a hair over $90 and they are where only 3 blocks away from Home..

Truthfully, I didn't even ask about warranties, the guy just told me it was 2 yrs and it is prorated, not full replacement like the one you cited. It was $135, after discount. After my wife came and got me, then me back with truck/trailer, the 100 mi rd trip to the dealer, it was more like $185. I was right next to an O'Reilly's and the kid who helped me push it on to the trailer said they probably had a battery for it. I may not be the most efficient old guy on the block, but somehow it was still a good day.

I guess I'm lucky I live 10 minutes from the dealer and batteries plus. I think I will check out both.

If it is not an emergency, I need a battery right now, situation. I recommend Battery Mart online. They carry most major brands at usually the best price. always pays to shop around...But they do carry Deka batteries also, which is what a HD battery is.

I don't think I need a trickle charger because here in Texas I never go for more then a week or 2 without going out, but would look into one if I need to.

Thoughts?
Thanks

Don't know what your bike has on it but my Fatboy has a Factory proximity alarm, battery won't stay charged for more than a week. Put in two different style batteries and it's the same. First one I tried lasted overnight.

FYI, bought a bikemaster gel battery for my dirtbike in February from my local honda dealership and it never had enough juice to start it. Took it back and was told that my old charger "maybe 5 years" would not charge the new batteries. He was right. After that I looked to make sure that my old charger would charge my 2012 Heritage.

Found out you need a new smart charger for the agm battery on the Harley. Yea if I had the moco trickler it would work but I have ran the battery down twice leaving the ignition on. Just sayin if you have an old charger you may want to read up. Not a lot of useful info on the subject on the forums.

Update: So I got a new battery from batteries plus, I put it in and it fired right up. I must have needed one for a long time, because the new one takes no time to fire up, while the old would chug for a few seconds before turning over. I thought this was normal, but after buying the new one the difference is huge. I guess over time I didn't notice the bike taking longer and longer to turn over.

I know this is an older thread but someone may be researching battery problems in the future and I want my experience added to their research. In June the bike will be 2 years old, no date stamp on battery. My bike would stop during occasional compression cranks. It would crank then stop momentarily and crank then start. You know after its warmed up, only did it once in awhile. Now it's doing it every time I start it up. Always been on a tender. I pulled the battery out and set it on my bench, hooked a 100 amp load tester to it until the load tester starts to smoke from the heat-up. Before the load test it was testing 13.6 volts. The meter on the load tester while testing would drift to the bad/used up zone. After releasing the load button the needle slowly drifts back over to the green. If I was to test someone else's battery I would say the battery is fine, but the 'Pause' during the compression stroke was becoming more prevalent and the 'Pause' seemed to last a few micro-seconds longer and I made the decision to replace. I've only read about the compression stroke 'Pause' once or twice before and told these beasts are high compression and a battery with a weak cell will have difficulty and get worse......that's all I've got to report.
P.S. I am posting this in another battery thread to ensure someone doing research will find at least one of my posts....I am for the record, not doing this to boost my posts count, I stopped paying attention to that some time ago.
After new battery install notation: no more 'Pause' witnessed after new battery. Will monitor for future notations.
