If you are taller than 5-8, you will have to do something with the seat. I am 6' and my feeling was that I was always "scrunched" and sitting on the tank.
I'm 5'9" with a 32" inseam. I test rode a Deluxe and I also felt scrunched to the point it bothered my hips on a 15 minute test ride. That's why I went with the Fatboy. In retrospect I think a seat change would have worked out fine. My .02 cents.

Fatboys, Deluxe's and Heritage all now have pretty much the same frame, so a lot is in the seat and handlebars (pullback risers too).

I don't get the 'chick bike' either. Basically the same bike I'm running and I've never gotten a 'chick bike' comment.

True. I'm running a Fat Boy seat I got for cheap from a member here. Sits lower and way more comfortable than the factory seat for sure!
Looking to down-size from my 04 Classic to a softail model. Got my eye on an 07 and an 08 Deluxe. Not both , but one or the other . I like the idea of the 96 inch engine and a 6 speed tranny. Opinions appreciated.
Don't have a Deluxe.........have an 07 Fatboy (200mm rear tire-still a Softail) everything else is the same. The 96 gives me enough power that I don't even think about engine mods, and the 6 speed...great. I take allot of long trips and being able to drop into 6th at 65+ and cruise is a real plus for me. Don't think you can go wrong, take a look at some of the Luxes on this forum..........most could take Best_In_Show at any Motorcycle Show. Can't go wrong with a Softail!

As a woman with an 07 deluxe, I will say I always felt the deluxe was one of the manliest bikes hr offers. Even I, at 5'7" often feel I'm sitting on the upper end of the seat and will eventually change it but I've put a lot of miles on mine...actually put 1400 mls on her in 24 hrs...and if I even get another bike, I will keep this one for fun. I LOVE her!
Also, I guess in a way it is a chick bike? Every time I go out to the bars I always get chicks who want to hop on and go riding on it with me, is that not a chick bike or what?
I never understood the chick bike myself. It's a little lower stock than the heritage but pretty much the same exact bike minus studded seat, windshield and bags. I went with the Luxe over the heritage for the tail light and I hate studs, felt similar sitting on both though. I get it most from the bagger crowd so maybe there just jealous my bike looks sick compared to there run of the mill bikes, I dont know.
Really like my '12 Deluxe, especially the 103 lump and the extra gear. A different beast altogether from my last bike (1340 Evo). Can't understand all this seat mumbo-jumbo - I'm 6'2" and love the stock seat (With Heritage Springer rail), bars & boards. A pal of mine traded a brand new Deluxe after 8 weeks because it crippled him. Maybe my spine has adjusted to the bike?!! And no, I don't walk like an Orang Utan!
