Looking to down-size from my 04 Classic to a softail model. Got my eye on an 07 and an 08 Deluxe. Not both , but one or the other . I like the idea of the 96 inch engine and a 6 speed tranny. Opinions appreciated.
Wow, what timing. Did about 250 miles today on my '08 Deluxe just for the hell of it to take advantage of one of the last nice fall days of my season. At lunch I told my riding buddy that I love my Deluxe so much the way it is set up for me now, that I have no desire to look for or at a new one. Seems like everybody I know is converting to the "Bagger Nation". I just can't see me giving up my Deluxe anytime time soon. I've been riding since '84 and it has been a long time since I've had this much fun riding!
If you are taller than 5-8, you will have to do something with the seat. I am 6' and my feeling was that I was always "scrunched" and sitting on the tank. I have since added 17" apes and the Le Pera Maverick Daddy Long Legs Seat and the bike is finally comfortable. SJ Ron
Deluxe is a sweet ride man, they all look great I think.
good luck with your choice, ride safe on it.
I went from an 04 to an 07 for the engine and tranny upgrade and I got a 103 rather than the 96, I wanted a solid foundation to start of with.
I hear ya wanting to make that change.

Mine is completely mode'd out, far from stock and I could not imagine riding on anything else. I have owned or ridden just about every bike Harley has made since 1969 and this is the sweetest that I have had or been on to date.
I love my 2012. I occasionally get **** for it being "a chicks bike" which I laugh off since I see way way way more chicks riding street glides these days. And once people see it they drop those thoughts quick. Super comfy and with the shotgun shock it rides like a cloud or tight depending on what I'm riding road wise. I will agree the seat is definitely set up for shorter riders, I'm 5'9" and 1/4" and feel like I'm a bit to close to the tank, but coming from a crotch rocket where your Crown Jewels are forced into the tank no matter what you do it's not bad. I would like to get my seat redone to move me back, just gotta find a local shop that does it. I feel like my *** is riding in the upper ridge sometimes to give me some room
