Default Two Questions From a prospective Deuce Owner

Hi,

After much (agonizing) deliberation I've finally settled on a Deuce as the object of my desire I had pretty much decided to buy a new 2007 when I stumbled upon this:

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/mcy/266646325.html

I think that it's a really nice looking bike. I'm not sure about the $15,500 though. I can get new for about $17,500 and when you factor in the value of the factory warrenty, two grand doesn't seem much to save. Any thoughts about the $15,500? Is it fair? high? I've looked around on the internet a bit and it does seem to be about what people are asking for a two year old deuce but I just don't understand why people pay so close to new prices for used bikes? This isn't 2005, when dealers couldn't get their hands on new bikes.

On an entirely unrelated note: the only thing about the deuce which is giving me pause are the forward controls. I'm a short dude (29" inseam) and when I sit on the bike in the dealer it feels like a bit of a stretch to the controls. I've never owned a bike with forward controls, so part of the problem may just be that I don't know how it's supposed to feel. Any other short riders ride deuces? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I'm only 5' 7" and my Deuce sits justfine. Matter of fact, my seat is getting reworked right now to move me back two more inches.
As for the price....only you can answer that question..... It's worth whatever you are willing to pay, as long as you are happy in the end, it's all good. For me, it's seems pretty high.

I would pass. The paint job isn't anything rare. You can do what that guy did, and send your tins back to HD for those colors.

In my book, that bike is worth about 12K tops.

Price of vehicles seems to vary from state and even area to area within the same state. You don’t say where you are but since the ad you are showing was placed in Phoenix, AZ I’ll assume that is where you are. I checked Kelly Blue Book and NADA for you on a ’05 Deuce using the first Phoenix zip code I found which was 85001. I averaged the used price by adding the low and high prices together and then dividing by 2 for each. The KBB average price is $12,620 and the NADA average price is $13,217 for the Phoenix area. While the $15,500 price might seem too high remember that these websites don’t take many of the accessories or custom work done to the bikes into consideration when picking a set used bike value.

The choice is yours to make but he says the bike comes with a set of brand new bars worth $500 plus the extra chrome, aftermarket pulley, rotors, and other stuff he doesn’t list in the ad. In the end the value of this Deuce may be pretty close to the $15,500 he is asking for the bike.

One bit of important advice though, make sure this guy is legit. I’ve heard that many people have been ripped off trying to buy through e-bay or craigslist so be careful.

i was in the same boat last june when i wanted a deuce, i found a used2205 with all the bells and whistles that i wanted for $15.000, but like you said for another 2 grand you can get a new one with the factory warrenty. and thats what i did.
my wife and mother in law said whats another 2 grand when you are spending that type of money, plus my bike is MY bike, not something somebody else didnt want anymore.
im very happy with my first HD. good luck!

The price isnt all that bad when you look at the mods that are put in the bike.

He has a chrome rear fender, two in one exhoust and others im sure.

If you went and bought new and done the mods, you are looking at over twenty thousand especially if you pay sales tax and other goodies. If you like the bike get it.

As a Deuce owner, I would agree with the above posts. The price seems a little high, if you are going to pay that much, I would just go ahead and purchase a new one. The Deuce sears the soul of the rider and you want to make it your own. In reference to the paint, mine is stock vivid black, easy to touch up. In case of a problems with custom colors and custom paint schemes, it could get costly. I would be wary of craiglist items, I dont know about the bike section but the auto section is filled to the brim with fake ads. Where else can you buy a 57 Chevy restored for only $6,000 dollars and sell it 11 times? If I could find the article of this I would post it here. Good luck and keep the rubber down.

I am about 5'5" on a good day early in morning before joints compress and my 05 Deuce with stock seat fits just right. I did after a time lower it front and rear 1 1/4", but as much for looks as necessity. Lowered I can flat foot easily. Your call on price, but as mentioned above the modifications...which you will eventually do anyway, do add value. The above 12K is low in my book and 13.5-14K would be a good deal if the color rings your chime. IMHO John
