So now that the time is getting closer for winter season upgrades, I want to have a set of cams installed on my '07 Heritage. It has the efi 96 engine.
I want more low end grunt when I am riding two up but would also like a bit of top end to pass the occassional truck or slow grannies.
I have read a lot of posts here (most focus on touring models not softails) and have done some research on the matter. I have narrowed down my focus to the SE255 or SE254E cams. My Heritage has stage 1 with SE pipes, aircleaner, and powercommander.
I would appreciate any and all input from those that would take the time to post.
Have you done a stage 1 already? pipes and air and tune?
If so then cams will help, but I havent done it yet so I couldnt say which cams, I do read alot about the 255's and also alot of peeps seem to like woods cams.
I am interested in following as I want to do the same thing all at once.
I was told the tensioners tend to go so I thought it would be a good idea to do cams and the tensioners at the same time for me.
Lump
With the 96 ci, stay with the SE 255 or the Andrews 21H. There will be a cranking compression pressure lose with the Andrews 26H unless you go to a 103, then the 26H would be best.
If you only have a stage 1 you might want to consider the SE 211's rather than the 255's. 255's, IMHO, might be a tad to much, to radical, for stage 1. Just food for thought.

If you're narrowed down to SE, you haven't done enough research...

Thanks for your virtual kick in the ***...my head is spinning now with more questions...compression, cams, exhaust, hot start, cold start, low end torque vs mid range, HP....at least it's going to be a long cold winter for Q&A. I hope to have a decision made by spring.
For the rest - thanks for the input on the cams...next quest (ion) is concerning exhaust....Bassani Road Rage or V&H pro-pipe and what cam and why? Told you it wasn't going to be easy....
