The newer bars on the Heritages are 10" I'm pretty sure. Running the wires inside i think you may only be able to go 10s. Maybe 12" if you leave the wires outside. I have read that a few put 12" apes on and was okay, but fairly sure they did not run the wires internally. I would for sure try and make sure they'll work before you go and start the swap. Could save a lot of *** pain. Good luck.
he has more than wires to think about. Wires are the easy and cheap part of the job...just extend them. What about his brake, clutch and throttle cables? 12's are too tall. What should swap right over is the older 10's off a wide glide or softail custom.
I know I have at least a couple of inches in throttle and clutch cables. The previous owner changed them out for braided and put a little extra room in them.
I also gave the "stock, book answer" specs for the rise and pullback. With the big pullback that comes on the older Heritages (they almost look like the Victorys!) the bar is rolled back so far it takes all the rise out. With mine rolled forward it's much higher now. The hand position is off though. If I ever get time, I'm going to do some more precise measuring on both the bars and the wires/cables and see what I've got.
