Default Apes on Deluxe

I need some advice I know I will get mixed advice but I read the posts here and use the information to make my decisions unless wife finds out haha

I have a chance to pickup 14" apes for my bike and want them because I hope my hands wont go numb. I have stock bars now and standard risers, I don't go on long trips. I will have the badlander seat on in the next couple of days, and having the bike lowered 2". I do have a windshield and hope to use with bars if it doesn't look funky and if i go on a long trip.

So will i regret the 14" meaning i should of went with 16" i am 5*9. If i keep the bars in line with the forks I wonder if i am going to loose length? i don't want to roll the bars forward alot?

Thanks for any help

Depends on the bars - Carlini and Wild 1's run higher than others.

I am 6 ft - my bike is lowered 2" I have 1.5" risers and I am running 14" Wild 1 Outlawz - I have them pushed frwd (more comfortable and looks better lol) and they are basically just in line with my shoulders if i sit perfectly straight up and down - which I usually don't

I think the pullback of the stock bars is roughly 11" total if you include the 1.5" of pullback that the stock 4" risers give. So you'll lose length if the pullback of your new bars is less than 9.5" if you're using the stock risers.

I'm 5' 8" and I'm going with some custom made apes that will be 12" but I'm switching out to some 2" risers with no pullback because the new bars are 1.5" thick. I want my hands to be up but to still allow my arms to bend a little and I also want my hands to fall the same distance out as the stock bars.

There's no way to tell if *your* hands will go numb since it depends on so many things like seat height, any back or nerve problems you might have, etc, but you can try it out by measuring out the height of the bars + risers and the total pullback so you can hold a broomstick or something at that point while you sit on the bike.

If you like the bars, but not the height, remember you can always take a few inches out by going to some low profile risers. Good luck.

I have 14 in 1 1/4" apes, and a badlander seat. See sig pic. To me its the perfect combination. No regrets on any level. I am by no means a short rider either. Two to three hundred mile afternoons are pretty typical. I wouldn't set my bike up any other way. That being said, I also have both a detachable windshield and Mustang Wide Touring seat that I may or may not swap on as conditions dictate. I have no issues at all with the windshield and apes. Not one bit. I am a bit taller than you, but I think you will have no issues with the 14's. Here's a picture of my windshield in front of a my 14 inch apes, just to get a quick reference point.

Sweet bikerlaw, that really helps me out. Are you using stock height risers?

Yep, but I needed longer cables and wires.

Here is my 16" Wild1 Chubbies on my Deluxe. I'm 5'9" and love them. I'm running a Fat Boy seat. They are slightly above my shoulders. I am running spacers on my windshield. HTH!

I am 5'7" and had a set of Wild1 Chubbies on my old Dyna. They felt great.
I currently have Drag Specialties Buffalo Bars on my Deluxe 16"x1 1/2".
