Hi ,can anybody offer some advice...just got my new dream bike....2012 fatboy special. Have developed lower back pain....was thinking of putting a heritage softail classic seat on, if it would fit, as I rode one of these for 8 days without a problem. Has anyone tried this seat swap or does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks. Adrian.
How are your legs? Cramped? Stretched out? Maybe you need different handlebars, maybe something a bit taller or with more pull-back. Though if you're cramped or stretched out, a different seat can move you forward or backward in to the right position and that would help, too.
The seat isn't the problem. It's either bars, or you want a back rest. The Heritage has mini-apes and puts you in a more upright position. If the Fatboy has you slouching at all, you will feel pain in your lower back. The stock bars on mine (a lil different from what's on the '12s and '13s) had me feeling pain in my neck and shoulders. Putting apes on solved this problem for me.
As others have stated, seat would be easiest change (agree with Hoggy on the slouching thing), bars would be probably be most dramatic change. Not sure of your background, but you may just need to get in riding shape and/or exercise/weights to strengthen your back. I typically start each riding season with a few issues before my back strengthens. I'm making getting in better shape a priority this off-season.
