My buddy just bought an 07 Softail Custom which has the 21" front wheel with a 90mm (stock) tire and the rear has the (stock) 200mm. We are wondering if folks have tried different front tires on this stock rim and if they experienced any ride advantages after doing so. I am thinking something along the lines of a 100/90 tire or similar? Maybe folks have tried other combo tire mixes on theirs? Interested in any risks with doing this as well based on experience.
Those are the only options for a 21". If you want to do a 19" wheel you can do a 100/90/19/ tire but no other options for a 21 except a wider rim. The issue with a wider rim on your bike is that the fender brackets will rub on the edges of the tire so get a new fender and wider wheel or stick with a 90/90/21.
