Default where to get parts???

I am going to be buying my first Harley. I am gonna be getting a Fatboy, but I am not sure if i should buy new or used. I would like to put on pipes and handlebars and lotsa chrome. I would like to know where I can check out prices on accessories. Or, maybe I should just buy one with a lot of extras already on it. Would I be better off getting new with the warranty and such? Any ideas? Awsome site by the way

I would buy one that is 1 or 2 years old with low milage and let someone else take the loss, you can get a lot of imfo. on this forum, when you know what you want you can get a lot on line , e-bay is a great sourse, good luck, of course these are just my opinons.

Personally, I like new...and I like to do a lot of my own wrenching. Your situation would depend on your own specific talents, tools, and willingness to get your hands dirty.

When it comes to HD parts...the prices and staffat Zanotti Motors (zanotti.com)CANNOT be beat! You need a part number to work the site. Youget the OEM and aftermarket numbers from the Harley-Davidson Accessories Catalog and your specific model Parts Manual. Shipping is minimal, no local/state sales tax, and fresh, factory sealed boxes!

And I LOVE my new Fat Boy!

Good luck...

Steve

There is no right or wrong answer to your questions. If you get a new bike, getting pipes from your dealer may not be a bad idea. I got mine from Direct Parts, and had no trouble. I've known others who bought some from other sources, and if they had a problem with the chrome (rust/flaking), they were screwed. Usually if you get it from your dealer, they will work with you. Vance & Hines pipes are usually trouble free, but I've heard (and seen) horor stories about Rineharts.

Electrical parts are good to buy from the local dealer as well... again.. if there is a problem they are more inclined to help. For most of my accessories, I get them from Haleshd.com. 20% off every part, every day, no tax, and LOW shipping.

Good luck!

I agree with dynrdave... Buy used! You will spend a fortune on your own mods! Once you get her pretty, you will want engine mods...jugs, cam, headsetc... More money!!! Damn if I aint Harley Poor!!! But I love it

Unless I know the person who owns the bike personally I would buy new. A motorcycle by virture of what it is gets stomped alot by alot of people. Many people will argue with me but I am a firm believer in breaking one in slow and easy changing rpm often. I cring every time I see some one jump on a new bike and run it 7o mph down the interstate home 100 miles away. I've got 40000 miles on mine and intend to put another 200000 on it! If this is your 1st bike I might consider a used bike since you might not like it any way and it is a little cheaper. Zanotti HD best place to get part with out doubt. Just got in over 2k worth of engine parts and every think was as ordered. There web sight has a parts look up with price if you know the part#. Ask for Tim if you call. Super nice.

As much as it hurts the wallet to do so, in the long run HD parts are superior to the crap
that knock off so called custom shops offer.
