So, I just got married, and of course SHE hates my bike. She wants the slim, I say it's too boring..... Any of you guys have an Xbones? How's the springer with a passenger? Or should I just do what I'm ordered and buy the slim?
I never had any problems with ride quality on mine as far as the front end is concerned, and there are performance front shocks available. The only issues I had with mine that you should be aware of are these:
1) Finding parts for the front end like handlebars, risers, windshields, etc is a bit more of a pain, since the ones designed or regular front ends don't fit.
2) If you don't do your own service, the routine scheduled service that requires front end inspection/adjustments will usually end up costing you considerably more than the same scheduled maintenance on a bike with a conventional front end.
Other than that it's a cool bike. I almost always had people coming up to me asking about it when I'd be fueling up or stopped somewhere.
I have a bones. Its rides great with a passenger. The slim is cool too, but I love the springer. I would never trade my bones for a slim, just my opinion. My wife and I have put about 4k on her this year, and we both still love the Bones.
I have been married for 53 years to the same woman. I learned early that there was a lot of compromise if you really love her. If you don't love her then you should not have gotten married. I know this goes against the grain with many of you, like I'm not really a man. Thats OK. When I bought my last bike, a 99 Softail Custom, I suggested that maybe I should get a bagger so she might ride with me more. She told me "you always wanted a Softail, and that you should get what you want". If you really love them, more than likely they will love you back.
To be a little less harsh, I'll say that there are a lot of places and room for compromise in a marriage, just don't know that this is one of them. Married 27 years here.
Get the Bones. I've got a Springer Classic and have ridden the hell out of it including a round trip on the Al-Can and it rides and handles great. Every time I get on it, I'm smiling just as big as I was the first time I rode it.
