The backrest may or may not be quick detach, but it can be removed with 4 bolts. The pillion comes off very easily, remove the screw, lift and take off. You won't regret the move to the Heritage, I love mine and can't see me on anything else!

Is the back rest detachable? And is the seat one piece? Can I remove the passenger pillion? I never ride two-up. I just want the bags and a more comfortable ride. I have loved my Dyna, but the vibration is a killer for me lately.
Hi Rockabillygrl,

I recently upgrade from my 2011 heritage to a 2013 street glide so i think i can answer some of your questions.

all back rests are detachable but are bolted on so you will need to remove those first. If you are referring to quick detachable, no that does not come stock but if your dealers is cool you can ask to have that added before you purchase. If i would do it over again i would have gone with quick release if nothing else to get rid of the protruding bolts when you removed your leather bags.

the passenger pillion is one of the most comfortable stock seats you can get for your passenger and it is removable. matter of fact if i could rate stock harley comfort wise for single or two up riding i'd put it up there with the tourers (specifically the electra glide and road glide).

there are several things i miss regarding my heritage. the bucket seat and 12" apes sat me in a very comfortable position. Add the fact that the counter balance engine is very smooth at slow speeds, Idle, stop and go traffic. I'm not knocking my street glide there are many advantages of the tourers that i don't have time to go into right now.

If the vibration is what nags you, you cannot go wrong with a softail model. The heritage will give you a few more goodies that the other softails will not stock.

the only thing i can think of off the top of my head regarding the 2013 model verse the earlier models like the 2008 you mentioned is that the cat. is built into the header pipe (i think) where as the older models the cat is built into the mufflers. Something to think about if you plan to go with mods and sound is important to you.

Hope this helps.

The backrest has to be made detachable. The pass pillion does come off. Mustang makes a nice fender bib to put in it's place. No cat on softail.

This is my new Heritage with everything on it.
I have the quick release on the backrest and the bags as well. The fender bib is a HD part. Hope this shows the different looks.

I am sure you will love the heritage regardless of whether you go used or new. It is an incredibly smooth and balanced motorcycle.

I liked my Heritage a lot more once I stripped it down to the Deluxe that was underneath.

The cat is in the mufflers . I have a 2013 heritage and recently replaced the stock mufflers with cycle shack slip ons. When you rermove them and look inside you can see it. I absolutely love the heritage! It's my 2cnd harley and by far my favorite. If you get one you will love it too.

Does HD make a detachable backrest and luggage rack for the Softails? I couldn't find one when I added the rack to my Fatty.
