I have the shockproof in mine but also do this to reduce the clunk when first starting out for the day or if its been sitting a few hours. Start in neutral clutch in, back out of the garage (or a couple feet) all the while holding the clutch in. I do it while getting turned around in the driveway. Then put it into first.....very little if any clunk most of the time. The rest of the time while its warmed up, I put my foot on the brake, pull in the clutch and start it in gear (first). Works for me, but others may not agree. I read about this here I believe. Ride safe.

I don't mind the clunk, it lets me know it's in gear and ready to go! Neutral has become hard to find in mine, I haven't adjusted the primary chain in a while, I'll give it a try.
