Great to know and hear ghostrider69. I don't know why but since I decided to go to the Samson's, performance or hurting performance was never really a concern for me. I don't want my bike to run like chit but I never thought throwing these pipes on would hurt me and I'm a performance freak. Your bike as well as 1 other softail on here are why I finally decided to go with the 39's over any other pipe. I'm also toying with the idea of cutting my tips as well. I now run a Python 2 into 1 with a SE race tuner and it runs awesome but just ready for a new look. I thought I would see tons of bikes last summer with these pipes based on all the stories I read here. I have yet to see 1 single bike any where around here running these pipes. They are coming out of the box today for a good waxing before the install. Can't wait till spring!!!

  1. Hey Tony, if performance was never an issue for you, then why can I find pages upon pages of you asking about loss of performance and second guessing buying these pipes due to loss of performance haha. Sometimes I think you might like to listen to yourself talk...just bustin ur ***** a lil because Im bored...but im just sayin

Thumbs up

I was worried about the performance issue with the fishtails as well. I went with the fishtails because of the look I wanted. The power with the fishtails is more responsive compared to stock and has more power through the whole power band. Overall very happy with the performance. I am running Samson fishtails with baffles and power commander with a K&N air filter and had the biked dyno tuned.

Bottom line if you like the look then it wont disappoint.

tbonetony - there will at least be 2 of us in IL running these. Priced them along with some other stuff with BKRider on Friday and will get them ordered tomorrow. 2-3 week wait from them which is doable for the price.

I didn't notice a big power loss, but I did notice a big loss in torque. It was was so bad that I thought I was going to get rear ended going up hills on more than one occasion. I ended up up camming and dynoing it and now it's good. Not as good as it could be, but I'm satisfied. Looking and sounding good isn't cheap!

This kind of thing concerns me, especially when going 2up. There's not a lot of HP in these things to begin with.

I've posted this before many times.

But to show the difference again when U put long pipes on a Bike, this is what it does to the TQ Under 3K rpms VS other systems..

Son had both a new 07 Deuce and 09 NT.
He had the same cams (SE 204's)and stg1 mods (SE/AC. SERT, Dyno and V&H's pipes) done to both bikes.
Both bike were done at the same dealership, By the same PHD Master HD Wrench, and tuned on the same dyno machine. So they were as close as U can get, except for the Pipes...

Only difference was the Deuce had (V&H's BR's 2-2's)
And the NT had (V&H's BSL's).

Heres the Dyno sheet of the Deuce with BR's 2-2s
U can see that at 2500rpm's it made 87 #'s of TQ.. U have to come in from the right side of this sheet to read the TQ.

Here's his 09 NT with the longer BSL's. It shows it only made 70#'s of TQ at 2500rpms..

So at 2500 rpms the V&H's Longer BSL's made 17#'s of TQ less (70) than the BR's2-2's (87#'s of TQ) .
Do the math,, That almost a 20% drop in TQ. with the longer pipes at 2500rpms..

Also notice how much flatter the line is across the sheet with the BR's 2-2's vs the BSL's.. and the BSL's even have the V&H's crossover that's help's whereas the 2-2's dont'.

On a light bike and a light weight rider U won't notice all that much diff..

If U ride 2 up and are a bigger guy and load up Ur bike for a trip, Then U'd notice the difference a lot more loss in the lower RPM's.

loss of power over other exhausts is a fact, and when your playing with 100 or less HP you WILL notice 15%! They look awesome and i was going that way until my bud showed me his dyno sheet and it showed a drop from 118hp to 100hp!!! So im not buying them from him lol. even with tuning they simply will not out perform most other aftermarket pipes. If your just in it for the eyeball factor go for it. Teflon
