Only partly true. Tanks from carb only years won't have the access, and tanks up to 03 carry a different p/n for carbed vs injected and the carbed tanks dont have the access hole. However, from 04 up, both carbed and injected tanks carry the exact same p/n (61625-01D for my train and prob most softails) and all have the access hole on top. Seems the p/n for the tanks changed in 08, so I believe the answer to your question (but do your own research too) is that 04-07 tanks are interchangeable between FI/carb and year to year, 03 and prior are not, and 08+ tanks were changed to a new p/n altogether. Looked up your specific tank, it is also p/n 61625-01D. So look for a tank from an 04-07 softail carb or EFI.
