yes you still need to force the clip in as much as you can as per the photos then align it with the wrist pin hole and then push it into the groove.

i dont purport to be as experienced as those hillside boys but it is my understanding that the oil should be used for the piston /rings /cylinder assembly and lube for all other assembly as it sticks to all surfaces well until the engine is started and the warm clean oil washes it away upon initial start up the cylinders require to be seated right upon start up so the oil facilitates this.

When I bought my 98" fuel moto kit I asked for one of these. It makes installing the wrist pins a breeze. No extra charge either.

That is what I'm using it on.

I got the top end completely out!
Will be shipping to Bean tomorrow.

Any one else had slightly rusted and dull head bolts?

Mine are, but were under chrome HD covers.
Which will not be reused since I am installing compression releases.

I might try to pick up a new set

Nice work Dan! Kind of crazy isn't it, taking the whole motor apart like that?

My head bolts were oxidized too. The long ones aren't a big deal, but the short ones are. I'll be picking up some new ones too, for the same reason. Compression releases will keep me from using the covers again.

I'm guessing it's because of the heat generated from the heads.

Heads and throttle body on. Making a little headway.

How do I know if the throttle body is in there correctly?

My head bolts were pretty scurvy as well. I just cleaned them up.

Don't forget the gaskets that go in between your rocker boxes and your heads have a certain orientation to them..

The part circled here....

Lines up with the part circled here....

Shouldn't the TB seat well, and then the flanges only have one slotted hole? Meaning that the other hole has to line up, just right? Did you get new intake gaskets too?

It's looking pretty good too. The two-tone look is kinda badass!
