Sounds like having the releases is better than not. Getting to the starter is a pain too, so not a bad deal. Like you did QC, I also checked using the calculator on the Big Boyz site, and found he cold compression very much lower at our altitude.
Dan, you can new head bolts from HD for not a lot of dough. They're $3-4 a piece, for comparison's sake.

I just cleaned up the shanks with a red Scotch Brite pad and the heads with a buffing wheel at work. The outers were really in pretty good shape and didn't take much work.
Thanks for the tip. My outers are bad cause they were under chrome sparkplug covers. I'm gonna try to sand the until I get to really fine paper and they try to buff them.
Well, didn't get much done yesterday. Weather sucks. New grips and throttle cables. Hooked up the electrics to the throttle body. Hope to button up the top end tonight.
The Kuyakyn ISO throttle grip came out in pieces. Glad I had decided to change grips!

I might try this as well. I don't have a buffing wheel, so I don't know that I'll really be able to polish them up.
When I had to remove the headbolt bridges, I actually had to get a torch on the rear cylinder. The heat must have really locked in the set screws.

No kidding! We got about 8-10" last night, and it's still coming down. Makes for some cold times in the garage.
We only got about 3" or so at 4 this morning.
Really hoping to get it fired up this weekend. Having said that, I will probably miss something stupid and she won't fire on the first try, sending me into a panic.
