I bought my bike used and the previous owner couldn't find his module. So I had to buy another one when I had the big bore kit done. No issue getting a new one and them using it. Basically all the module does is allow the HD software to access the ECM, that's why it doesn't need to stay connected.
I'm not sure if they'll have to flash the ECM and start over with a new tune but you might as well just wait to buy it until you need to retune the bike.
Also, my dealer has a locked safe where they'll keep your SERT module. That way if it gets lost it's their fault. They mark it on your last receipt after a tune that they kept it, that way you can prove it in writing that they had it last
Thanks guys... make talk to dealer sometike when I'm there amd see what they say.. but should be good. As don't have any motor mods planned. And havnt completly lost it yet, have to dig thru the shop...
I sent my sert to fuel moto in exchange for $100 or $150 off a power vision. From what I understand,(and I could be wrong) the power vision saves the map that your bike has on it, and loads up the map fuel moto loaded on it for me. Then fuel moto will send you out maps for whatever you do in the future to the bike. Like I said I could be wrong.
