Default 2006 engine upgrade

I have been searching all of the great informatiom on the forum. But i still have questions as usual.

I would like to get the most out of my 88 and need help deciding on the 98 or 95 big bore kit and the best cam.

Currently have a PC5 SE heavy breather and V&H 2 into 2 big radius.

What kind of budget am I looking at. I can turn wrenches, just a bit hesitant to jump into it. Don't want to f$&@ anything up.

Thanks

I would go 98"
If your boring out your cylinders you may as well get the most displacement.
Cam depends on what you want out of it.

I bored mine out to 95 with se flat tops and andrews 26 g cam. I'm no mechanic but rhe job went pretty uneventfully. 20k miles on the build and no issues. Plenty of videos on the net to help you.

That is a very good and common build. Reliable, no ping, affordable. With your 06 heads and 26's, no headwork required. Also a 2n1 will do much better then your 2n2 big radius and if you are spending $$$, pipes are an important part of the build. Skies the limit on builds and their is no "best" build. Take your time and research...

A few recommendations:

1. Don't go to crazy on your build and sacrifice reliability.

2. Buy your parts or at least the majority of them from a reliable shop that will help you plan the build and check the compatibility of different parts.

3. Prepare a detailed written plan prior to starting.

Hello there
I have an 05 model fxdxi and its an 88/95 which has been fitted after run in miles. Mix of S&S gear drive cams and Screamin eagle cylinders pistons heads intake exhaust etc. Just to say IMO the 95 has every thing that most people could want out a Harley and is not to radical that would up set the life of the motor. Things have moved on and you have a lot more options now. When i changed things over i had a trued crank so the run out would allow me to go gear drive cam set. There is the screamin eagle cam plate and oil pump upgrade which may be a safer way to go if there is more than 3 thou run out on the crank. Hope this small point helps.
tbone.
