Allballs. What is wrong with yours. OEM units are pretty tough? Starter clutches are about all that fail with them and easy to change. Ive got 5 years and 118k on mine and changed a few starter clutches and thats it. Oh I sanded down the solinoid once.
Starter is dragging, barely turns over, I've tested everything down to the starter motor and everything checks good ( battery, relay, starter switch and wiring) So the next step is the starter
It would be a rare thing that your starter failed on an 08 from my experience, unless you have boosted your compression. Get a battery out of a buddies bike that you know is in good shape and try it in yours. Very few people know how to check an AGM battery and they don't have the right tester for it.
You can check the starter with a cheap induction ammeter available at any China tools store. Put the ammeter over the main cable from the battery to the starter and see what amps are being pulled. Check the shop manual for your bike and see if it is in spec.
Changing out the starter is not a fun project, especially when compared to cleaning some terminals or replacing the battery and then riding.
That's the last thing I want to do, changing a starter doesn't look like fun, I even hooked up jumpers from my car battery and still no change, I bypassed the starter button and relay, by applying 12v directly to the solenoid, I know the positive battery cable is clean and tight, getting an amp meter on the + cable looks to be just as difficult, I am definitely open for any and all suggestions on this before I pull the starter out
