I have a circular pack that can clip to my big backpack, the small circular pack I use for every day haul'in, like a six pack of soda/beer. I've put my hiking boots in there and a change of clothes, you'd be surprised what you can get in that small pack. The sides zip open.
I can carry quite a bit in it. Hold a couple bags of groceries, my 3/4 helmet and a jacket. The outside pockets on the end are very handy. My bike feels naked without it...I depend on it every day. My only complaint is it's bleached to a dark brown in the sun. Cool Sac said they would re-dye it and put a UV sealer on it for free, they are guaranteed for life even though I didn't buy it from them.
