Default A/C Idears

Since I purchased my '08 Train last summer, I have been trying to find an air cleaner that would suit my bike. The P.O. already put on the stage 1 Screaming Eagle kit.
Saw the RSD velocity stack a while back, loved the looks, but don't want to have the risk of running without anything to filter dust from getting into the motor. So my hunt continued, and I would always keep coming back to looking at velocity stacks. I've come across a velocity stack made by Wimmer, where you can buy a mesh screen. Wimmer's site says "nothing will get past the all stainless filter that will hurt your motor."

The stainless filter:

Anyone have any experiences with Wimmer's velocity stacks? Or any thoughts on getting one?

If you're looking for a complete Stage 1 assembly, I recommend the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Simple, effective design and you can mount any single bolt cover to it. If your just looking for an Air Cleaner Cover there are hundreds of styles out there, all mostly just personal preference. Browse through JP Cycles for ideas.

On my Train I modified an S&S cover to fit my Mikuni carb. Recently saw this photo posted with a great looking A/C Set up. Don't remember the manufacturer.

Already have the stage 1 done to the bike.

Seen those before too. Doesn't appeal to me.

No one has any experience running a velocity stack like the wimmer one pictured? Really interested in putting it on my bike, but don't want to destroy the motor either.

Smile stack

Just remember you got to wrap your leg around whatever you stick out there. If your young you'll be ok, if your gray your knee is going to ache pretty quick.

I run the RSD without any issues. I keep the black mesh sock with me just in case it gets dusty out. It's a tough looking AC.

I had a Hypercharger on the Yamaha I had before my Train. If I can ride with my leg wrapped around that, I think a little velocity stack will be just fine.

Finally someone pipes up with some useful feedback! How long have you been running the RSD one? Don't remember if that one has any other type of screen/filter aside from the screen you see at the end of the stack (and the sock)?

There is a small optional black mesh sock you can place on the end of the velocity stack. It's like an extra $20. I've never felt the need to run it, but I don't ride in that much dust/dirt. I've been running it for the past 5 month or so. I got to say that I love the intake. It looks awesome. I understand that other filters will offer more filtration. It also offers a lot more leg room as opposed to my previous round/stock Softail Slim intake.
