Am wondering if any of you guys have done your own install and what types of problems arose during the procedure. I am a bit excited to do it myself, but if the job is pain, maybe you could talk me out of it.
Just unpacked a set of V&H Big Shots Staggered. The instructions in the box detail how to disassemble stock pipes and install new.
If you've got chrome pipes, wear some latex gloves to reduce the number of fingerprints you put on during instal. And wipe and polish them down before you start it up or the heat could burn the fingerprints into the finish.
I just installed Vance and Hines side shot slip on's the other day on my new 13 Heritage. It was a breeze. Im sure if I had done the whole system it would not have been any harder. I say go for it. The more you can do on your own the better you feel about your bike not to mention the savings in money. Plus you get to know your bike better and build your confidence to take on other mods.
Two things I will re-stress again that were mentioned above:
1. Don't hurry
2. Make sure you have head gaskets.
My struggle came when I took the old system off and forgot to unplug the O2 sensors - easy fix if you have 2 people, but I was doing it all myself. Had to use 2x4s to brace up the system and call for back up.
