Permanent fix:
small piece of all-thread, nut with loc-tite, washer under original carriage bolt mount. Then, washer and nut with loc-tite on top of original carriage bolt mount, tighten the top nut while holding the bottom nut to esentially sandwich the hell out of the original carriage bolt mount. put dash on, see how long you need the all-thread and mark it. remove dash, cut all-thread, put dash back on, dash nut on top.
had to do this on my last 2 bikes, lasts forever, easy on and easy off with the dash. carriage bolt design sucks once it rounds out, and i dont trust putty or JB Weld to hold it and have it happen again down the road and then have to go thru the dremel process again.
Actually, it is a shitty design. It's an angled carriage bolt and the only thing keeping it from spinning is a groove that it can easily slip out out of just enough to make it spin. I should have taken a pic, but I used a key ring around that bolt and threaded it through the plate. It's hard to explain, but it keeps the bolt from sliding out of that groove. In the meantime, 427, if it is loose enough you may be able to slide the console along the tank toward the front of the bike and the bolt will come with it.
