Default Having Brake Light Issue -- Need HELP

First off, I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to electrical stuff. Here’s my issue… I noticed this weekend that the front brake lever is not illuminating the brake light, but when using the rear brake pedal the brake light works just fine. Any help on where to start looking?

I’m aware of the switch issue when not putting a piece of cardboard in the front brake lever while removing, and understand this usually results in the brake light permanently staying on. After noticing the issue, I did (using the cardboard) take apart the switch housing and the switch appears fine, but when pushing the switch manually with my finger it did not illuminate the brake light either. Does this mean the switch is bad? How can I know for sure?

Any help is appreciated. It’s getting warmer and I need the brake light working.

Thanks.

Yep I thought of the issue you mentioned right away. If hitting the switch manually isn't working you'll need to trace the problem back. Start by checking the wires inside the housing if you still have it open. Next would be the harness under the right side of the tank.

The switch button has to come out to turn on. Pushed in is off. Sounds backwards but trust me.

Pulling the lever releases the switch which turns the light on. Pressure on the button turns it off.

The switch is always the first thing I'd think to check, and those guys are right, out is on, in is off.

The next question would be what kind of work have you done recently? You may think adjusting your handlebars or taking your gas tank off wouldn't have anything to do with your brake light, but a pinched wire or a connection you might have dislodged can disrupt the circuit.

Thanks for the tips guys...looks like I've got some investigative work to do. I haven't done any work on the bike lately. I did have the auxiliary lights installed last fall but thought I would have noticed the brake light issue before now if they screwed something up on install... but maybe not.
