Default Small Fork Bag on Swingarm (pics)

Hey All,

I figured that I would share a couple of pics with you. I am new to the softail forums, so I am not sure if this has been posted or not, but figured it would not hurt to share.

The wife stopped off at the Harley dealer today to look at a few things and found a cheap ($29 verses the others at $99) fork bag. After she got home, I was not very bought into the look of it on the front end of the slim, so I played with the idea of putting on the swing arm. I simply utilized the straps that came with it and I think it looks great. Just big enough to carry a few small things and I like it better than the bigger swing arm bags. Check it out!

I think the bag looks good. If it's the same one I saw at dealer, the only knock for mr is that there is no quick latch release to open. Good idea .

Not a bad idea, but if it's anything like the swingarm bags, I would suggest you wrap the swingarm in a thick layer of something like 3M Super 33+ tape, else the vibrations will cause the leather straps to eat through the swingarm powdercoat.

You are correct it is the one that is NOT quick disconnect and I think that is why it was cheaper, but also made this mounting possible because I was able to remove the straps, and then wrap it around the swing arm. I don't think I could have done it with the quick disconnect ones. Time will tell if this style is annoying, but I do like the look. It is a place to keep insurance card, smokes, and anything else that is small.

Makes sense on the powder coat rubbing off, thanks for that, I did not even consider it. What is suggested to counter this? Simply some electrical tape so that it blends in?

I carry my tool bag in front on the frame down tubes. That frees up the swing arm for my solo bag which can carry quite a bit more than the tool bag.

Looks cool. I've considered doing the same with my bag. My bag is old and beaten up so haven't decided if I want to buy a new one and do that or not yet. I like though, looks nice.

Good job. I'm not a fan of tool bags on the slim either. Throws off the cool look of the Hollywood bars, IMHO.

I might suggest cloth bicycle tape to protect the swingarm underneath the leather straps of your bag. Works like a charm.

So much so that when I went with a mounting system for my swingarm bag after using straps and ties for months, there was no damage:

As an ex-motocrosser, I used the clear number plate (probably made by 3M) cover you can get at any dirt bike shop. I used it to:

1) Protect the swing arm as mentioned
2) Protect the top of the head light bucket (for my handle bar bag)
3) I needed a sticker to park at work and didn't want to "stick it" on the bike. So I cut a small piece of the clear and stuck that to the forks, then the sticker to that. The parking sticker is a bitch to get off. In case someone says "you still put a sticker on it" :-)
4) Put a couple strips on the frame where rocks and stuff would chip paint.

It ran me $14 bucks, but I have so much left over, you can really use it anywhere, except obviously around heat.

It is a good choice, among others one of them is mounting the swing arm bag to the right side on the fender struts. (which I might go to eventually if I go ahead with my upswept cholo plans
