Alignment?
that's not exactly true.. especially with the rear wheel, because if it doesn't track straight (those tension bolts on either side of the axle) you can have issues with your belt tracking in to your transmission.. there's a few ways to make sure it's straight. I use the way that involves a laser and two cards with lines marked on them and you make sure the laser stays in the lines as you rotate the tire, which means your belt is straight. there's videos and stuff on youtube that show you different ways to do alignments
your front tire on the other hand, yeah, just make sure the spacers are on the right sides and you should be okay

Several different ways to align the wheels. American Iron magazine had a tech article i, I believe the May issue, which is still on shelves.
Biggest thing to be carful of is the rear wheel, and making sure the belt tracks in the center of the pulley and doesn't rub the pulley sides when the wheel is spun in both directions.

yeah they do. I was mostly asking if it was necessary, not for a how to. We only have two techs on a Sunday, so I didn't want to bug them with it today unless it was necessary

it is necessary for the correct tracking as you know. i just use a caliper on the belt tensioner bolts. everybody has a way of doing it. Never had a problem with doing it that way.
