Default NEED Apes! Need help piecing out parts..

Hey guys,

I've decided on 16" apes for my 10' Fat Boy.

I was all set to buy 16" 1 1/4" Burly gorilla bars, Burly cable extension kit, also ordering a Magnum Shielding clutch cable since I've heard the clutch cable in the Burly kit sucks..

But..

I'm very concerned about the electrical work. I'm not very electrical savvy, so I'm a bit concerned with buying this set up. I would LOVE something that is just plug n' play for the wires. Is there any wiring extension like that?

I was also considering going with the Hill Country Custom pre wired apes to make life easier, but I've read a lot of good and bad reviews about them. I sent them an email, so I guess we'll see.

I have a couple questions though..

What are the stock risers sized for? Do they step down to 1"? I know the cables I need are +10 but exactly what size is that? When I go to Magnum Shieldings website, they only list in inches. What is the length of the clutch cable that I'd need?

Thanks for the help guys! I can't wait to get some apes on this beast!

Cheers,
Adrian

as far as your risers on those bars i dont see why they wouldnt work i think the harley bars are 1" not sure on yer set up, to figure out length of cables n such i think + 10 means from stock, harleys catalog has all that chit in back
what i did is when i gat bars used mammas sewing tape measure and went from there
if i remember it was 76" on clutch cable , 54 " on brake, 36" on throttle/idle i think
i also have 16's w/ 4" riser , i also used novello kit( for wiring all sigs n chit), lots of companies have pre wired bars that are nice especially if your good at sodering, novello kits r plug in play

Namz cycle parts have plug and play. Only thing you will have to do is for your turn signals is take them out of the connector its not toooooo hard.

I went magnum shielding everything. It was pricing but when you see the product its definitely clear why its that price. Namz is plug nd play for my model i think they have plug and play for other years as well.

I think the burly cable kit comes with wire extensions in it, pretty sure it did when I did my sporty a couple years ago. If you go to magnums website you can enter your year/model and order +10" lines without figuring the total length.

Ok, I may go the Novello route for my wiring extensions needs. How much more wiring in inches to I need for my extensions?

Edit: Namz seems to be a bit cheaper.. hmm

Also..

When ordering cables from Magnum Shielding.. there are 3 different options for the brake lines. Which do I need? I'm not quite understanding this part.. Everything is +10, right? Clutch, throttle, idle, and brake line?

1) Non-ABS Designer Lower Brake Assembly for 2010 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy

2) Non-ABS Designer Upper Brake Assembly for 2010 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy

3) E-Z Align Single Disc Front Brake for 2010 FLSTF(I) Fat Boy

You don't need to be an electrician to do it. Everything is color coded, which makes it real easy. I made it hard on myself by trying to draw diagrams when I pulled the wires out of the Molex connectors and still got everything turned around when I put it back together. All you need to do is look at how the wires are going into the female side of the connectors and put the male side back together according to that. The biggest problem for me on the whole was pulling the wires thru the bars. That was a bitch, but once you get past that, it's a breeze. If I had it to do again, I could do it in half a day.

Getting prewired bars is a good thought, if you can pay the extra coin for it. I got my kit from HCC and didn't have any problems with them. Just ordered what I needed online and they shipped it FREE - all the way to Japan! That was probly a mistake on their part, but I'm not going to complain...
