Default Ape Hanger Installation

I've got a set of Yaffe 12" original apes im getting ready to put on my '10 SG. I've read a ton of threads on the topic and see guys saying you need to extend both the clutch and brake lines. Others saying just the clutch by 2" and others saying you don't need to extend anything just do a little rerouting.

Can anyone give a clear cut answer on this topic? I've got a Barnett 8" throttle by wire cables and poly bushings already. Will the Barnett cable plug into the existing connections? 8" should be plenty of extra cable if so, right?

Also, the old ladies Dad was telling me the other day that HD makes plug and play extensions for the hand controls for the Rushmore bikes. Are these available for '10s?, if so, links?

Here is a link to the bars Amazon.com: Paul Yaffe Originals 1in. Classic Bagger Apes - 12in. Ape Hangers - Black , Handle Bar Size: 1in., Color: Black 51530512BK: Automotive

Thanks for the help, Cody.

My recommendation is to install the new bars and get the set where you like them. Then you can see how much longer the clutch cable and brake lines need to be. I would stay away from too much rerouting as you can get yourself into trouble by stretching something too tight or pinching something. Stick to the stock routing locations and get the longer cables. You can easily go to the dealer and tell them how much longer than stock you need them and they can set you up. That's the easiest way to do it. Otherwise you can measure your stock ones and go to the parts book on Drag Specialties website and figure out what you need.

As far as plug and play wiring extensions for the Rushmore bikes I have no idea. The two sets of handle bars I've changed out I wired internally so I bought extension kits and soldered on the extended length wires and crimped new connector pins on the end.

Agree. Run the lines and cables in the stock locations. If you have to replace with longer, then that's what you do.

Will the 8" Barnett wires be enough extra length to run the throttle wires through the bars? Seems like the plugs would be hard to get through the holes in the bars

I installed my apes and then used a piece of 12GA electrical wire and ran it to the length of how I wanted it to look. I figured out it was 8" longer than stock, called Magnum and ordered the lines. Piece of cake!!
