I'd like to swap out the stock motor case bolts that hold the crankcase halves together on my 12 deluxe for black chrome ones. The only ones I'd bother with are the 5 on the top/front that show. I would like to remove them 1 at a time and replace it and torque it, and then move on to the next one etc. I'm a little worried however cause the manual shows a definite torque sequence, and that requires removing the engine from the frame as to access the bolts at the bottom of the crankcase. Has anyone ever attempted what I'd like to do?..I'm concerned about causing a leak by torquing the bolts out of sequence. Thanks Blooz
Crankcase bolts are not something I would want to mess with unless I was actually splitting the cases the re doing them to proper specs and pattern. Toppers are cheap and easy.
The torque sequence is irrelevant in the context of your proposed action. Torque sequences are for assemblies with multiple fasteners to insure even and consistent clamping forces throughout. In your case that has already been accomplished during initial assembly. You should be perfectly fine removing and reinstalling one fastener at a time.
TOPPER'S = UGLY, OIL LEAKING ALL OVER = UGLIER. With the luck I have I wouldn't touch that with a 10' poll!
lol..I'm from the old school...Always looking for something trick to do...No offense to anyone, but any Joe can get a set of toppers and slap em on.. Trying to be being inventive and different is what I always went for.

Thats what I thought. The problem is, if I called the dealer you KNOW he would say to bring it in = cash in his pocket. That's why I asked here. I'll get a few more opinions before I try it though..Thanks
I don't know, I got toppers on my bike, like em. Why eff around with the case bolts? Paint them black if they bother you and you don't want toppers.
I consider myself old school, 57 yrs old. Learned not to mess with sheet like that.
