My 09 Night Train needs another rear tire before I head out west on a 5000+ mile trip.First time I did a trip like this on the Train I had Dunlop's on & got about 6000k out of the rear tire. Next year it was a set of Metzeler's & the rear got about 5000k before it was ready for the heap. Last year I went with Michelin Commander II's which was said to be the greatest touring tire out there....6000+ miles on the rear & again it needs to be changed out before this years trip.
I've resigned myself to the fact that my big,fat 200/55R-17 rear tire will never get more then 6000 miles unless there's some other tire out there that I have'nt seen yet. Yes,I do check my pressure's & I don't think I'm that hard on them so what else is out there? Avons? Dunlop American Elite? The new Metzeler ME 888 Marathon?
How about it Train riders,do you guys get maybe 7000,8000,9000 out of your big,fat rear tires? Or is it just the nature of the beast.
Don't know if Dunlop makes the E-3 in the 200-17 or not but if they do give one a try.I run a 160 on my Train.3600 miles and tire still looks new.I was lucky to get 6k out of any rear tire to date that includes 880's and 2 stock Dunlops. Ride is also improved

I put a Falken 205-50-17 car tire on my fatboy. looking to get 30,000 plus out of it. And only cost 95 bucks. I can't even tell the difference in the ride except it stop better.
