Default Fuel/octane rate

I have a '92 flstc..54,000 miles.Does the octane requirement go down with miles ? I have heard this somewhere before .I have always used at least 87 in this part of Texas .Never tried 91 or higher .Would it be adviseable ? I know that higher octane fuel burns slower ,but will that affect drivability or harm engine with that many miles ? I have been told by many riders to use at least 91 ..Suggestions or thoughts ?

This link reads really cool, But the first statement is complete HOGwash (sorry, I couldn't resist). Premium does NOT burn slower than regular. More misconceptions: it's "better" than regular; it contains more energy than regular. The real difference between premium and regular is that premium is more difficult to ignite, which makes it less likely to "light off" before the spark plug tells it to. It simply resists the tendency to ignite due to hot deposits, hot compressed air, etc. better than regular.
