Thanks for the info everyone! I was leaning towards amsoil in the first place. Running that in the sportster and am happy. Probably gonna order me a case of it for the softail now.
Wow, pretty interesting responses. I see most everyone has gotten away from the "I run the Harley oil, cause thats what I am supposed to do" mentality. There was a time when these threads were littered with just that response.
20/50 Castrol in the engine
ATF (Ford) in the primary
75/90 Mobil 1 Gear Lube in the tranny
Engine - Mobil 1 20w50 V twin
Primary - Mobil 1 20w50 V twin
Tranny - Just switched to AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 and she shifts like butter! Extremely happy with that change.
>> Rotella diesel oil in the primary? That's a first lol.
Not as strange as it may sound... I know several people who use Rotella T in their primary. It works well there. It's cheap compared to other products. It is JASO-MA (wet clutch) certified. I tried it after reading many primary fluid threads on this forum. Check it out!
When I said all oils are compatible, I meant they will all mix without problems. That does not mean they are created with the same service designation. Just that they will mix with each other without creating a chemical reaction. If they didn't you would have to flush your engine before changing brands, and I don't think to many do that.
