Just got back from a 2-hour ride today, and I went to park the bike in my garage and lock it up (like I always do), and for some reason the ignition switch cover won't latch shut. It feels like it's jammed somehow.
The lock works fine, it's just that the cover won't close.
Anyone ever see this? Anything to look for, because I'm at a loss...?
It's covered under warranty, no problem there, I just hope I don't take it to the dealer and have them tell me I may wind up with a second key because they don't feel like matching it to the original...
the only thing it could be is there is probably a pin that holds that on and the pin may have slipped up or down and hitting something else to keep from closing. if you try to force it, it will probably bend whatever is going on. see if you can move the pin with a paperclip or something similar.
Figured it out. Inside the stationary part of the switch there's a small groove with a tiny horseshoe-shaped spring clip. The cover has a pointed pin that's supposed to snap into that. Somehow, that spring clip got bent, preventing the pin from seating. I could see both ends of the clip through the slot on top. I just straightened it out with a small knife blade...
