I have an 05' RK. There is a small pin on HD's that hinge the ignition switch cover which seemed to break and fall out. This is the cover that closes over the key hole. It seems to be around 1/32" in diameter and about 1-1/4" long, give or take. Harley, of course, will not sell the $.30 pin, but will sell me a new ignition swith for only 120 bucks - WTF. Does anyone know of a fix for this? is it common? I was thinking of one of those pins that are hollow and slit on one side. They compress when pushed into a hole, don't recall what they call them. Any help would be appreciated.
Even with a magnifying glass I can't see mine very good. It just looks like a solid pin about 1/16" in diameter.
I would find a solid piece of metal that fits and push it in.

Yes, I know this is an old thread, but I just had the same thing happen to me. Fortunately I found a fix, so I am posting it up.
I found a finishing nail with a very similar diameter and cut the head off, then I used a dab of lock-tight to hold it in place.
I've got a 2011 Cross Bones and this just happened to me this afternoon. Fortunately I found this thread and had a box of finishing nails of a size that fit snugly. Couple of light taps with a hammer and it was in. Works like new. Thanks Punisher.
