Default Rear brake pad replacement help

Well the title says it all. I want to change out the rear brake pads on my '08 Fatboy. Between the Rush slip-ons and the 200 mm rear tire, there is like NO room to work. I can barely get a 12-point closed end wrench on the slider pin.

So, to you brave souls who have completed this task, how the F*&% did you do it?? And yes I have read the manual.

Thanks, Chris.

I feel your pain but I can't help because I don't have your exhaust system.

What I do know is that every maintenance procedure seems begins with "Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery".

There are no secrets. If you have clearance problems with no room to work, you're going to have to suck it up and remove the exhaust. I have the same problem on one of my bikes. My solution is during a rear tire change, if the brakes pads are close to replacement, I swap them out while the wheel is off.

No, no, no. I do not want to hear that. But that is what I thought when I looked at the job last night. Just hoping for one of those "I can't believe it was that simple" kind of tricks. I have read some have been able to change the pads without removing the caliper, but I don't see how.

Looking at your sig pic, you might be able to get away with only removing the rear exhaust pipe. But for sure you will have to pull at least that one. Once you get the caliper off its a piece of cake. Good Luck on it bro.

Maybe you could use only your front brake until the next rear tire change?

If you want to remove the caliper on the rear of a softail you will have to take the rear wheel off.

Im not too sure of the accuracy of that statement... I had to take the caliper off to be able to remove the rear wheel on Thursday. The wheel hung up on the rear caliper that is recessed into the wheel. The caliper came off easily and the wheel came out once the caliper had been removed. Just my .02
