Sure that RG looks good with the 21" but like you said the buffeting is horrible. To fix the buffeting you need a taller shield, maybe lowers also, then guess what - it may not look so badazz anymore. It may even look kinda silly... Metric lookin.... think Goldwing.... lots of plastic... I'd still get the RG though. lol Only if it has abs. No abs, pass...

Man if you trade in that BO now you are going to loose your ***.
Be ready to loose $3,000.00.
But if you can't help yourself, then I understand as I just sold my 2012 SG which I owned for 8 months. I sold mine outright and still lost my ***. But if I would have traded in I would have lost even more.

Do what is right for you and your wife, no one else's opinion here is relevant!

I wouldn't trade my Breakout in for anything else, but the Breakout suits me and my needs. I ride solo 99.9% of the time and it is the style I love.

If the Breakout isn't making you 100% happy (and how can you be if the wife isn't happy!) then do what you must .

Losing $3k or whatever it ends up being now, if it means happier riding for you and your wife, is better than "living with it" for a while and losing $2-5k later anyway.

I'd love to see you keep your Breakout, obviously that is my biased opinion, but I am more realistic than that.

Another option you should consider (in my opinion) is a Road King. You get the bags/comfy/etc.. for the wife, but open air free riding for you. Forget the fairing and windshield (and buffeting). You could also lose far less on a deal like that since you are trading "down" in value. There are times when I wish I had bags, and the RK is the only option I would've considered.

I'm not much of a fan of bikes with fairings, but that's just me. I had a '94 Heritage and both my wife and I liked it. Then went out and purchased an EG Classic. I hated it, but the wife loved it. Went back to a 06 fairly well equipped Fat Boy. I liked it, she absolutely hated riding on the back of it even though back then they had a wide passenger seat. So she got her own Dyna. Now I have a stripped down 13 Fat Boy. Every now and then she rides on the back with the OE narrow passenger seat and no sissy bar and guess what? She likes it! Can't figure women out. If you decide to trade, I'd suggest shopping at as many dealers as possible. Some may be looking to move the 13s at this time of year. If not, wait a month for the 14s.

^^^^ this.

$3,000 is chicken feed, seriously. We H-D riders don't buy these bikes because they're cheap, economical, or even fairly priced for that matter. We buy 'em because we like 'em.

My wife and I bought a '13 Road Glide Ultra in May (traded our '12 Heritage in on it), and by June we traded that RGU back for a '13 Heritage, because the Heritage was just better for us.

So, yeah, do what makes both users of the bike happy.

I am above average height at 6'6" so no model no matter what is going to fit me perfectly, even when I mod the foot controls and bars. I did that with the heritage and while it made it more comfy it still wasn't a perfect fit. The wife is 5'9" and has Pam Anderson airbags installed, so my upper backrest is in place. Neither of us have beer guts. It's just when two-up, we're two-cramped.
Road King seat position is not for me, I prefer to be in the bike than on the bike.
They first offered me $15k, since that is probably what they pay the moco for a stock Breakout, and a day or two later said if $16K get you into a more comfy bike then they would work with me. I expected to take a hit but the wife says it shouldn't be an obstacle. Not sure it would sell outright, even though I have all stock parts in the boxes.

Plus, I really miss my first HD - '04 Heritage, see pics. The weird thing is, both bikes are on the same frame yet the BO can't handle two-up very well comfort-wise. I think its due to the chopped fender.
I'm leaning toward selling the BO back and re-incarnating my first love Heritage, there is just something about that bike that calls to me. But when I walk in the door at the dealer they have a bad *** black Road Glide Custom with 21" chrome RC Comp front wheel and chromed front end parked right next to the Heritage. So, I go to the dealer and talk a little turkey about my dilemma and they'll of course buy the BO back to get me into a more comfortable model for two ppl. Me and my girl take both the Heritage and RG out for a ride and we find that the RG rides like a caddy at speed, provides plenty of room between us, but at idle shakes like a mother. Plus, there's more buffeting on it than riding the softail without a windshield.
So, for the same amount of $ to buy a stock FL and re-incarnate the Heritage I can get the RG. Or, for no $ I can leave the b!tch at home. I'd ask for advice but I think I know what you'd guys would say, but I'm seriously torn. RG ride and radio? Strip down capability of FL? Or mod the seats/bar/riser of the BO until it fits? right now the FL has the edge.
If you decide to sell it, and want to part out some items, let me know. I say go with your gut though on swapping.

Wowow, you went w/a BO at your height?
Looks like a bigger sportster, no offense.

I think that would be very un-comfy for a guy of your size not too mention riding 2 up?

Any-who, put your bike up for sale on ebay w/a reserve and see how high it goes?

Also, if you've a mind you could always take the parts off that you put on and put the bike back to stock and then trade it in.

Good luck!!
