On my Deuce, I noticed today that my front brake lever is very hard to pull and the brake doesn't seem to "grab" very much. It has new pads, fluid, and the line is bled. It feels normal until it on the road for a few minutes. It is about 103 plus temp with the heat index here in Virginia.
I am starting to think it may be one of three things.
1. Warped front rotor.
2. Master cylinder needs to be rebuilt.
3. Front brake caliper needs to be rebuilt.
I found some info on the flossing. I took the brake caliper off and cleaned it. I then lube the pins and pads and installed.
I went for a ride and noticed that the front brake caliper is dragging just slightly. It looks like I will rebuild the master cylinder and the caliper next week to make sure I solve the issue.
had the same thing happen on my old Shovel. Bike came to a screaming halt with front brake smoking. I landed on the gas tank when pulled in clutch to gear down... thought fast enough to let go of the clutch and let it come to a stop on it's own. (Master Cylinder) ... I'd be ready for a smokin stop til it's fixed ...
The HD dealer near me had the master cylinder kit but not the caliper. They had to order. It seems these days parts that a dealer would normally stock, they never seem to have in their inventory. What is the work coming to?
When ever my wife and I buy our next home sometime in 2014, I will build a garage with a lot of storage space and stock my own parts for these kind of stuff. I hate waiting for 4 days to get parts for a job that takes 30 minutes to complete.
If I order Canadian... I live here.. extra shipping, longer wait??? American... depends where of course I receive within days and less shipping! Ha explain that!
Hear you on keeping stock though... just posted a "help me" thread on my dead Dyna... IF it's even the battery... I have to order in.
