Purchased a 08 rocker that came with a legend's air ride system.
curious enough to find out from other folks here if anyone has gone from an air ride to a progressive 422s..
I had an air ride that I had multiple problems with and switched to a 422 that after getting it dialed in absolutely love. The main reason for the switch besides malfunctioning air shock is that the 422 shock is simple and maintenance free.
I think you will find that most here has gone with the Shotgun Shock. I have seen many sell their 422's in order to buy the Shotgun. As for "dialing" one in, how does one do that with changing road conditions, ride solo then ride 2 up and so on? I always wondered about that.
Alright everyone, this thread is about converting air ride to progressive 422s it's not about how everyone prefers shotgun shocks. Anyone who reads this forum surely knows that shotgun shocks have supporters.
I for one can't afford $1300 for shotgun shocks so I'm interested in people's comments on the 422s, so let's have a discussion on them.
well said Bluraven. also, let me add, that there are a percentage of bikers out there, me included, that don't have to have a bike perfectly "dialed in" for EVERY change, like changing road conditions, ride solo, 2 up, the list goes on. for me, it's more important to just jump on the damn bike and ride...if the 422's make you happy, more power to ya. i also have alot more to put my $1300 towards then some air shocks.
Our Dyna rides much more comfortably than our softail, even with the shocks on the softest setting, two-up, going over large bumps, where they presumably bottom out.
There's nothing inherently limiting about the backwards softail shock design, so maybe Harley just needs to step up to the plate. Maybe they already have, based on reports on comfort of the Breakout. Progressive may also have already had it covered for a while now.

The same way as stock shocks. Not a big deal. I have been doing it for years.... inconvenient maybe, but affordable.
Shrini, I have been told some keep their 422's as backup when going with air shocks because of failures/leaks. Search L3, Legends Air Ride... maybe you will find some one that had 422's and L3 and can answer your question and make a comparison.
