jba900, Heres a link to the pdf instruction on the led fuel gauge kit install
in case you want to go that route http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J03934.pdf
The wiring for the stock gauge is under that tank and passes through a small tube. You have to disconnect it from the bottom left side of gas tank.
A service manual is highly recommended for new harley owners. It's how we learn the ins and outs of the bike and satisfaction of doing the mods yourself (within your abilities of course)
My 12 has the miles til empty thing and I always run the trip when I fill up.. Never paid attention to the gauge.. Could I use the right side flush cap on the left (gauge) side? Essentially delete the guage..
What do you think about a fuel gauge that sticks at 3/4 of a tank and then empty?
More than likely,, some one freaked with it..
I have never had a Problem or issue with mine working right in the 7yrs or 43K I had our bike and I did have all the hoses and filter replaced at 32k cause I had a pin hole in the gas line.
I'll add it probably is not the norm as all the others in here who have never had a issue with the gauge readings, because there are a few of us that haven't had any problem...
Mostly I think its the cause of a lot of the others who wasn't a good wrench working on the tank and gas gauges and didn't install it right or bent something while it was worked on.
