Default Should I get the 5 year Warentee???

Hey folks,
New to this forum. I'm returning fromoverseas and did purchase a Fatboy. Did alot of reading and decided to go with the 06 Fatboy. Got a hell of a deal on this machine. Im interested in knowing if the 5 year warrentee is a wise option. It already comes with a 2 year 24 month. I do not anticipate more than2000 miles per year on this bike at this point but as kids grow up etc, things may change. Thoughts please...

Mike

One other thing. I nearly always opt out of these things. Something my father felt strongly about. I just wonder from a reliability stand point, if I put say 3K on the bike, is this sufficient to tell if any other impending problems arrise. I have a 2003 Intruder 1400, no problems and wonder if I can make the leap with the Hog.

I got extended on both my Sporty's but stuck with the 2 year on the Softail. Only reason I got extra on the Sporty's was because it was a free promotion. Haven't used the warranty for any of them thus far and doesn't look like I will anytime soon.

I agree - wait until near the end of the 2 year mark. Heck, you might have a 103" kit in there by then and the waranty will be moot anyway.

Good points. I forgot the option to wait is still there. Also I had not thought about mods to the bike and how this might negate the 5 year... Thanks much!!!

Personally, I don't think the 2 yr warranty that comes with it is all that great to begin with. I usually get a new car every couple years, so I am familiar with how car warranties work and made the assumption that a motorcycle warranty worked the same. I was wrong. I think they have a playbook of excuses for why they don't cover anything. Fortunately, I really haven't had any big problems; just a few minor things. But it was an inconvenience, none the less.

I have since made a lot of mods to my bike and wouldn't even bother checking to see if anything is covered anymore. If you plan to do a lot of mods to your bike, this is something you should also take into consideration.

That said, this has been my own personal experience. I have to believe there are many people out there with stories of how their warranty really came through for them.

Personally, I'd pass on the extended warranty...two years/4000 miles is plenty enough time/miles to know whether you've got aturd...andIMO the '06HD'sare definitely not turds. I might consider it with the '07s due to the 96/6 speed but a '06...naw.

I have a the warrenty but then the most majorupgrade I planned was the pipes...It would take alot for them to write me off for those.I have been considering canceling....but I have an extended warrenty on my car and I have used that thing to death. Also not planning on changing bikes for a long time.

It's always a gamble....If you plan to do upgrades to the engine don't bother. Also if you plan on changing bikes in the future it might not be worth it either. Finally ifI would havebought the bike cash I probably wouldn't have doen it either...(nothing like making payments for a bike that doesn't run)

I think you are safe with 2 yr warrenty, I ride 06 scremin eagle fat boy, pipe's , s.e.r.t , K&N , 8mm plug wire's , the bike is one year old yesterday , 2000mile's and I do drive in fast lane , no smoking burn out's , i'm to cheap to buy 200 tire, but it has never missed a beat, you might ask if it has 25 fuel injector's. just my 2 cent's and I bet you will never miss your jap (metric) bike you are in for a treat. GOOD LUCK
