A few weeks ago I got stranded and had to be towed when my bike wouldn't start. Lights came on, fuel pump primed...then nothing when I hit the starter button. Battery checked out fine, voltage regulator was not recalled. I made sure the battery was fully charged the next day and the same problem...bike won't start. Since it's under warranty my dealer towed it up to their service department at no charge. A few days later they call and tell me the bike checks out fine. What?! I tell them that can't be right, I'm sure there is a problem. So they take it for a long test ride and it starts every time. UGH.
So yesterday I drive it home. This morning...WON'T START. I'm furious.
Out of desperation I put the bike in neutral and BINGO, it starts fine. When it's in gear and the clutch pulled in it won't start.
Then the light bulb in my very small brain comes on. A few weeks ago I put on a set of leather lever fringe covers and grip covers. The thickness of the leather keeps the clutch lever from being fully retracted and the bike won't start because it thinks it's in gear and the clutch isn't in.
So why am I telling you this? Two reasons.
1) I am an idiot.
2) If you have a sudden problem with your bike always look at the last change you made to it, even if it is just a cosmetic change.
Enjoy the day!

Nice pick up Dan. "De Vicenzo is best remembered for his misfortune in the 1968 Masters. On the par-4 17th hole, Roberto De Vicenzo made a birdie, but playing partner Tommy Aaron inadvertently entered a 4 instead of 3 on the scorecard. He did not check the scorecard for the error before signing it, and according to the Rules of Golf the higher score had to stand and be counted. If not for this mistake, De Vicenzo would have tied for first place with Bob Goalby, and the two would have met in an 18-hole playoff the next day. His quote afterwards became legendary for its poignancy: "What a stupid I am!"
