Default She's Dead Jim

New battery last week, been riding ever since including yesterday, went out to start the bike this morning and it was deader than dead. Look down on the tank and I'd left the ignition switch on all night. Measured the battery voltage and it was like 5 volts.

Is leaving the ignition switch on all night enough to kill the battery? (I've never left the switch on like that). Only 'accessory on the battery is the shotguns.

on the charger now.. missed a good riding day... grrr.

I'm only a country Dr.
Wouldn't your light have been on? Or did you just have the key unlocked? If you had the big switch turned to run, that would do it, I think, as the whole system is energized.

Yeah, it just occurred to me that the headlight is on when the big tank switch is on. Sheeeeet. Hope I didn't trash a new battery...

You can only discharge a battery so much after which it won't be worth a damn. Put it on a charger (not a tender) and give it a shot. Nothing to loose by trying. Good luck!

Deep Discharge batteries can usually survive an event like that, but a standard lead acid battery just needs one deep discharge to cause irrecoverable damage, but as Jeff says you have nothing to lose, charge it and test it.

I left the trickle charger on it while I was at work (didn't want to put my big charger on it all day) and can confirm, a trickle charge doesn't do ****. The big charger is on it now..

Yeah, trickle charger is useless in that situation. Hope it comes back for you.

My friend rode my blackline to see how the 103b compared to his 1200, and left it on for about 30 minutes and it was dead...doesn't take much to drain it. We were pretty suprised. On the bright side he liked the bike enough to go buy a breakout the next weekend!

I'm betting it will be fine after a charge Benway. I have had that happen on older batteries and they were fine. Food for thought might be that after the big charger all day and if it starts then leave it on the trickle charger overnight.
