2013 Slim here - fairly close to your FatBoy.
I originally bought the H-D quick-detach P/N 57400111 (which will also fit your FB Lo.)
I got it online from New Castle H-D and saved nearly $100...
Being 5'8" tall, I found the top of the 18" shield was directly in my line of sight, so I later swapped out the shield for a 16" Long Ride Shields Heritage Recurve replacement.
Now it's perfect...
The best things about the H-D detachables is:
- the perfect right-of-the-box fit and hassle-free install
- it go on and off in seconds
- when it's off the mounting points are so inconspicuous that most people would never even notice it was ever there.
- and like me, if you ever want to change the plexiglass, there are tons of direct fit OEM options out there.
The H-D quick-detach shields also come in two flavors, for bikes with or without aux. lights.
The difference being the spacing between the uprights - the ones for aux. lights are about an inch wider...
Most guys will just get the one for aux. lights, then add spacers to take up the extra width.
That way you're covered if you're on the fence about aux. lights.
Otherwise if you bought the shield fur use without aux. lights, then decided to add them later, you'd have to purchase the other shield...

Like any shield, the amount of buffeting is proportional to speed.
I tend to putt around on two-lane back roads at around 50-55MPH.
At those speeds I can wear a baseball cap and regular sunglasses all day without issue.
At 65 and up I could see where it might wear on you, especially on a long ride/trip.
And besides, most of the buffeting is coming from underneath anyway.
The only way around that is to add lowers or wind deflectors.
I thought going from the 18" H-D shield down to the LRS 16"er would cause more buffeting, but the "recurve" portion at the top throws the air further over your head than the standard flat shield does.
So the LRS-16 effectively gives me the same protection as the H-D-18 did.
I felt not one bit of difference after the swap...
