And... truth be told. This was my father in laws bike. He left it to me. I have no idea how long or if its been like this for ever.

I looked at Ronnie's H-D partsfinder, earliest they go back is '91. On a '91 there is a turn signal canceller, #68537-89C $124.50. But I would hate to see you throw $$$ at a problem.
