When i press the left or right turn signal it stays on for a short time and then stops blinking so i have to hit the button again, is this a problem or a feature?
it's a feature and I find it annoying as hell and it always seems to turn off right as i get to the intersection. My normal route to work has me going through a lot of extended turning lanes, so I signal as I go into the turn lane, and it always seems to shut off when i'm about 10ft from the intersection to actually make the turn. I actually got pulled over for it once too because my signal turned off right at the intersection before i made the turn, luckily the cop understood when I explained how the switch worked an he let me off. I wish the module had a switch for manual shut off so the light would run until i cancel it, as that's how my previous kawasaki worked.

I understand what your saying and sometimes it is a pain in the a$$. What most people don't think about, and this may vary by state, once you have signaled your intent and moved into a turn "only" lane the continued use of the turn signal is redundant. Think about it, there is nothing you can do from that lane "legally" but turn in the indicated direction. No further signal should be required once in a turn only lane.
This is a feature on the pre '03 models. '04 and after self cancel after the turn, but the models prior to that cancel after a certain distance. Someone on this forum told me how to disable that, but while reading my service manual I found out that the countdown begins once you release the turn signal button. Since then I just hold the button in until I am about to turn/merge and then release it. I'm fine with doing it that way.
Also, if you hold down both turn signals for 2 seconds it will turn on your hazards. Hit them both again to turn them off. I didn't know that either. Love the service manual.
The module on pre '03 modules as stated go into countdown mode if the bike is moveing over 10mph. There is a reed switch in the speedo that connects to the turn signal module, one wire that goes up there. I think I'll try disconnecting that wire tonight if see if that will allow the module to work in manual mode all the time requiring to hit the button to cancel the signals. I don't know why I never thaught about doing this before, but I'll try it tonight and let you know if this works.
Ok, so for anyone interested, disconnecting the reed switch will allow the turn signals to run as long as you want until you hit the button again to cancel them. To do this on pre '03 bikes, mine is a 94, take off the back of the speedo cover(2 nuts) disconnect the reed switch wire, on my bike(white wire with green stripe) and that's all there's too it. Just have to remember to cancel the signal after a turn though.
