I had drag bars on my Night Train and now have a Heritage with the Mini Apes. I much prefer the apes. As stated earlier, you will need a windshield with the apes as you sit up like a sail in the wind without it.
I had the stock drag bars on my 2010 Wide glide and they killed my neck and back. After I switched to 14' apes it was much better. When I traded for my Ultra Classic I installed 12 1/2 apes because I wasn't sure about going taller with the fairing. For me apes are definitely better than drags.
I have 12" Yaffe apes on my street glide. My Breakout has the stock drag bars. Originally, I didn't care for the look of apes on other Breakouts, but I'm starting to come around. That very well may be one of the projects I do this winter..
BR Custom bars Lightning Bolts. 13.5" tall 1.5" diameter.
Inline with the frontend and grips no wider than the stock bars were.
Shoulder height even though CA allows six inches above shoulders.
I sit straight with good posture instead of reaching for the stock bars.
